Kaki King "Guitar Wizard"
Johnny Loftus, Philadelphia
Weekly
"Guitar Wizard" - it's a term usually reserved for splatter-painted
Ibanez shredders or nylon-string beard enthusiasts in fisherman knit sweaters. You
know - dudes who flicks notes fast and furious off nitro-powered fingers, but can't
find the soul in their echo chamber. Kaki King is different. As a player, she finger-pick
melodies from behind a sly smile. But her compositions are also infused with striking
warmth, and a sense of inclusion that's often missing from instrumental guitar. For
King it'snot a clinic it's just good music. |
